Feral Interactive Drops the Imperium Update for ROME: Total War

Fans of the classic strategy game ROME: Total War on Android are in for a treat as Feral Interactive has just released the Imperium Update. This massive free update brings a host of gameplay tweaks, control improvements, and quality-of-life features that enhance the overall gaming experience. If you've been enjoying this game since its Android debut in 2018, you're going to love the new additions. The same update will roll out next week for the standalone expansions, Barbarian Invasion and Alexander, so keep an eye out for those as well.

What Does the Imperium Update Bring to ROME: Total War?

The Imperium Update incorporates some of the most celebrated features from Feral's newer mobile titles, such as Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE. It introduces three new control options to ROME: Total War: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection. These new modes significantly enhance your ability to command units with greater precision during battles. For instance, you can now easily move your army, agents, or fleets by simply tapping and holding, eliminating the need for manual path-dragging.

Positioning Mode allows for meticulous placement of units through a tap-and-hold mechanism. Additionally, the Group Grid feature simplifies unit group management with a user-friendly collapsible selection menu. Melee Mode is particularly useful as it enables ranged units to switch to close combat when the situation demands it.

One of the standout features of the update is Command Slowdown, which automatically reduces the game speed when you're issuing complex orders, making it easier to strategize effectively. Another significant addition is the support for keyboard and mouse on Android (and iPad), marking a first for the game on these platforms.

The minimap in ROME: Total War has also received a facelift, drawing inspiration from MEDIEVAL II. It now offers smoother zooming and navigation, along with a new reset button for quickly returning to the default view.

The Imperium Update is now available for download on the Google Play Store for those who own ROME: Total War on Android. Be sure to install it and experience the improvements firsthand. And don't forget to check out the updates for Barbarian Invasion and Alexander next week once they go live.
