Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now
Unleash the Ghoul Within
Bethesda has released Fallout 76 Season 20, titled "The Ghoul Within," which introduces players to a range of ghoul-related features and mechanics. Announced on March 18, this update allows players to transform into Ghouls via a process called Ghoulification. To become a Ghoul, players must complete the "Leap of Faith" questline, which leads them to a new area in the Savage Divide and introduces them to new characters pivotal to their transformation.
As a Ghoul, players unlock exclusive abilities such as Glow and Feral, along with access to 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks, dubbed "Gherks." The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a Feral meter. Depending on the meter's level, players receive boosts in various categories. However, if the meter drops to 0%, players experience significant gameplay changes, including a massive increase in melee damage but severe penalties to endurance, charisma, health, action points, and accuracy.
The Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and visually making them glow. This ability also enhances maximum health, heals damage, and contributes to the effectiveness of Gherks.
Players have a choice of 28 new perks and 2 legendary perks specific to Ghouls. Note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are unavailable to Ghouls, as these stats are irrelevant to their new form.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
Navigating the wasteland as a Ghoul is facilitated by the unique abilities and perks they gain. However, interactions with certain factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may become hostile, potentially blocking access to some questlines. Players can circumvent this issue with the help of a new NPC named Jaye, who provides disguises to access restricted content.
If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit you, players can revert to human form through the Character Screen. This change is permanent, and reverting to a Ghoul requires purchasing the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
New and veteran players alike can now accelerate their journey with the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This feature, introduced in the Season 20 update, enables players to quickly engage with multiplayer activities like Daily Ops, Public Events, and select story content.
The update also includes numerous bug fixes, balance adjustments, accessibility improvements, and weapon damage changes. Bethesda has also announced the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update scheduled for April 29, part of the season's calendar.
Since its initial release in November 2018, Fallout 76 has overcome its early challenges and now boasts a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews being positive. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
