Summary

  • Windows 11 update caused issues with two Assassin's Creed games.
  • Fixes issued for AC Origins & Valhalla, but Odyssey may still have problems.

Assassin's Creed fans who encountered difficulties launching their games after a recent Windows update can now breathe a sigh of relief. Ubisoft has rolled out patches for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla to resolve the issues stemming from the Windows 11 24H2 update. However, some Ubisoft titles, including Assassin's Creed Odyssey, may still be facing unresolved problems.

The Windows 11 24H2 update introduced several enhancements, including Wi-Fi 7 support, improved energy-saving modes, and AI Copilot+ PC features. Unfortunately, alongside these improvements, the update also caused some games to malfunction, notably within the Assassin's Creed series. The newly released patches should rectify these issues for Origins and Valhalla.

Ubisoft has confirmed that title updates for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla are now available to fix the problems caused by the Windows update. These updates should automatically download through Steam, ensuring that the games launch properly. Players need to prepare some storage space, as the patch for Origins requires 230 MB, and Valhalla's patch needs 500 MB.

Windows Update 24H2 Is Still Plaguing Some Ubisoft Games

Although the specific cause within the Windows update that disrupted these games remains unclear, the community is thankful for the fixes to Origins and Valhalla. However, not all issues have been resolved across Ubisoft's lineup. Assassin's Creed Odyssey, for instance, continues to experience problems such as unresponsiveness or complete failure to function. While Ubisoft has successfully addressed major issues in games like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, some minor performance hiccups might still persist. Fans of Assassin's Creed Odyssey might want to delay updating to Windows 11 24H2 until a fix is available for their game.

While these fixes are a step in the right direction, the initial occurrence of these problems was unfortunate. Gamers reported issues when the Windows 24H2 update preview was released five months earlier, yet the problems persisted into the official rollout. This situation is particularly challenging given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Fortunately, the majority of games have not experienced significant issues following the update.
