Bai Cao uses a standard 52-card deck. Each player receives three cards. Points are tallied, and the player with the highest score wins.
Scoring:
- Number cards (A-10): Face value.
- Face cards (J, Q, K): 10 points each.
- Total score: Sum the card values. The final score is the units digit of the sum (e.g., a total of 26 points results in a score of 6; 20 points equals 0, also known as "Compensation").
- Excluded cards: Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, Spades (suits are not considered).
Special Hands:
- 3 Tien (Three West): Three face cards (J, Q, K).
- 3 Scratch (Three of a Kind): Three cards of the same rank.
